Meet Peggy Shaw Fink,
Development Director

Dear Union Gospel Mission Friends,

Prior to coming on staff here this spring, I served on the Board of Directors for six years. I felt good about serving the Mission and people whose needs weren’t often seen, much less discussed in my sheltered suburban church. In this way I tried to serve as Christ served and reach out as He taught us to do. Then in the spring of 2007 my life radically changed -- our family home of 20 years burned to the ground and I began a new faith journey.

One of the first realities of my situation was that I realized I was homeless! This was terrifying and yet my family and I knew that we had resources – we had insurance coverage and our family and friends surrounded us with loving concern and care.

On the other hand, I knew that the men, women and children finding their way through the doors of the Union Gospel Mission did not have these resources. The Mission is often their last hope. As I began to count my blessings, even in the midst of tears, I also claimed a kinship of loss with people who come to the Mission for help. When the position of Director of Development opened this year, I knew that the Lord was calling me to intentionally spend my professional time making a difference in the lives of people who, for various reasons, have seen their hopes and dreams go up in smoke but don’t have the resources to put things back together. And so began a new step of faith. It has been a blessing for me to join this ministry and to share one-on-one with many of you the vision for Mission work. We are making an amazing difference in the Twin Cities community!

This ministry began over one hundred years ago to fulfill the commands of Christ and the first century church – to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to shelter the homeless. Since 1902 the Mission has responded tirelessly to the needs of homeless and hopeless people in the Twin Cities metro area providing the comprehensive support services and educational programs which promote long-term success. This ministry is successful because of your generosity and faithful support.

Please call me if you would like a tour of the Mission facilities or to schedule a speaking engagement with one of our staff for your church. We love to share the good work that is being done and how you or your Church’s financial investment can make a difference.

Blessings,
Peggy Shaw Fink

Favorite Bible Verse:
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: For your sake we face death all day long; We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8: 35 - 39

Favorite Quote:
“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.

- John Wesley
