Job Title: Dental Assistant
Reports To: Dental Clinic Director
Union Gospel Mission Association of the
Twin Cities a Christian service agency that works to meet the physical,
emotional, spiritual and educational needs of the economically disadvantaged
men, women and children of the Twin Cities and its environs. In that
ministry, the Union Gospel Mission seeks to fulfill its role as servant to
Dental Assistants work closely with UGM dentists to meet the unique needs of
each patient. All employees must sign and adhere to our Statement of Faith
and Code of Conduct policy. This prerequisite for employment is based upon
federal guidelines provided in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Responsibilities / Essential
Assisting the Dentist during a variety of
Taking digital radiographs
Asking about the patients medical history
and taking blood pressure and pulse
Helping patients feel comfortable before,
during, and after dental treatment
Providing patients with instructions for
oral care following surgery or other procedures
Teaching patients appropriate oral
Performing office management tasks that
often requires the use of a computer.
Communicating with patients and suppliers
Preparing and maintaining dental
instruments, supplied, and equipment.
Prevention and management of medical
Oversee volunteer personnel including:
delegating assignments, training, monitoring, and initiating corrective
action if necessary.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) and current CPR certification required.
Experience as a licensed Dental Assistant preferred and knowledge of public
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Understands and is able to demonstrate
principles, theories, and practices of radiology
Able to apply dental techniques
Able to deal with people in a manner
which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
Competent in use of computers; enter,
transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or
electronic form. We do use Eagle Soft and digital x-ray in our clinic
Able to use cleaning agents, products and
Able to maintain inventory; track
receipt, sending and delivery of materials.
Able to support UGM’s statement of
Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge with clients and
Preference given to bi-lingual applicants
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL
Risks which require the use of special
safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating
machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
The work requires some physical exertion
such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping,
stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately
heavy items such as record boxes.
